A DAY AT MUDDY BOOTS

  • Welcome

After every child has been checked in by a leader, we join in a welcoming circle. We share news, sing songs, review safety guidelines, and discuss what the day might hold for us.

  • Learning Through Exploration

As we move through nature, we are constantly presented with educational opportunities. We may learn about the life cycle of insects while exploring a rotting log. A rainy day can help us learn about precipitation and weather cycles. We like to let nature and the children guide our days.

  • Connecting To Nature

As we slow down and observe, we look for ways to connect with the world around us. Part of our day may include practicing mindfulness by sitting with our eyes closed and thinking about the sounds of birds chirping, wind rustling leaves, and bees humming. Or we may take off our shoes and let our feet feel the earth below us as we imagine ourselves as trees rooting through the soil. On the flip side, nature is also invigorating and encourages fun. There are plenty exciting opportunities for running, jumping, climbing, and splashing.

  • Closing Circle

As our time draws to a close, we gather to reflect on our experiences of the day. Everyone is welcome to share what they learned, what they found interesting, how they feel about our time in the forest, or anything else that might be on their mind. We close with a song and then we say our goodbyes.

OUR LOCATION

We are excited for our program to be hosted by Robin Hills Farm in Chelsea, MI. Their beautiful 129 acre property presents boundless opportunities for our group to explore. It includes hiking trails through wooded areas, ponds, creeks, marshes, and grasslands. We will be safely nestled in their grounds, which feels very rural but is in fact easily accessible from Chelsea.
